im considering becoming a psychiatrist and i was wondering...do you have to major in pre-med your first four years in college or can you major in psychology?

You can major in whatever you want. I'd suggest you take what interests you most and just make sure you also take the required pre-med courses. If you like the psychology courses, major in psychology. It's not necessary though. I was a chemistry major. As long as you take the required pre-med courses (and do well enough in the classes and on your MCAT) you will be able to go to medical school and ultimately do a psychiatry residency.
