Nursing Degree before Medical School?

Postby k.kaur » Tue Jan 26, 2010 3:53 pm

should someone who wants to be a pediatrician go to a university and get an undergrad degree then go medical school? or become an RN, CN (not sure if thats what its called!), etc. before going to med school?

what would you recommend and why? please let me know how many years each thing will take!

Nursing degree before Medical School?

In my opinion, it makes the most sense to get an undergrad degree and then go to medical school. Your undergrad degree will take 4 years, then medical school takes 4 years, then a pediatrics residency will be 3 years.

There is no advantage (that I can think of) to obtaining a nursing degree such as an RN, BSN, or having a CNA license, unless you plan on practicing as a nurse before going on to medical school.
