Tengo Una Pregunta

Postby bsmcmahon » Sat Nov 10, 2007 2:08 am

So I'm a junior in high school, and Im interested in pursuing psychology/psychiatry. But I am very confused about the entire process.

Is the main difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist, besides education and degree, that the latter can prescribe medication?

I know as an undergraduate in premed, you can pretty much major in anything, but would majoring in psychology be redundant if you wanted to be a psychiatrist? Because I never hear anyone mention that as a major.

Is medical school always the same, whether you're planning on being a psychiatrist or a neurosurgeon?

If not, what medical schools do have good psychiatric programs? Because I am having a lot of trouble trying to research them on the internet.

I saw you mentioned in another post that some residencies offer programs that offer more psychotherapy than others. Any idea of which ones those are?

And I live in California, so if the schools you mention just happen to be here, that would be even better.

Thanks for the help
