Re: What classes are important for Medical School?

I am a second year undergraduate student studying psychology. I would really love to go to medical school and become a Psychiatrist some day. However, my major does not require the courses, such as Physics and Chemistry, that may be required to get into a medical school. Does anyone know if it is an absolute requirement to be Pre-Med and have taken all the science courses in order to get into a Med school? Or can you just study on your own for the MCAT and get in if you do well on that exam? Thanks!akutz@calpoly.edu

The following courses are required:

1 year general chemistry
1 year organic chemistry
1 year biology
1 year physics
and most med schools require 1 year calculus

You are REQUIRED to take the science classes, because they are basically prerequisites for many of the classes you'll have in med school.
